Sumitomo Electric Networks Selects Gigle Networks' Intelligent Multi-PHY Switching
Technology for Broadband Delivery Products
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., BARCELONA and EDINBURGH, Scotland, June 23 /PRNewswire-AsiaNet/
--
Gigle Networks' Technology Will Enter Japanese Market in Products that Extend
its Applications Beyond the Home
multi-PHY switching devices for both wired and wireless entertainment-grade home
networking, today announced that Sumitomo Electric Networks has selected the GGL301
200Mbps Intelligent Multi-PHY Switch for use in a wide range of broadband delivery
applications.
Sumitomo Electric Networks' selection of the GGL301
introduce Gigle Networks' technology to the Japanese market for home and business
broadband delivery and networking. These applications include: providing video on
demand in hotels; creating computer networks in schools and hospitals; and providing
internet access to individual apartments in multiple dwelling units (MDUs). Gigle
Networks' GGL301 device will enable Sumitomo Electric Networks' products to deliver
these capabilities over existing coaxial cables.
"There is a growing need for launching computer networks in hotels, schools and
MDUs using existing cables to distribute broadband services," said Soichiro Fukui,
Group Leader, Product Marketing Division of Sumitomo Electric Networks. "After an
extensive technical evaluation, we selected Gigle Networks' technology to deliver
these capabilities because it offered the optimal combination of performance, Quality
of Service (QoS), power efficiency and flexibility."
"I am delighted that the first deployments of Gigle Networks' technology in Japan
are a result of the partnership we have built with Sumitomo Electric Networks, a
highly respected pioneer in the fields of powerline communications and home
networking," said Michael Wilson, vice president corporate business development of
Gigle Networks. "I firmly believe that this is the start of a long-term collaboration
between both companies that will deliver exciting new capabilities in a wide variety
of applications."
Sumitomo Electric Networks will begin shipping products using the GGL301 in July
2010. GGL301 devices are fully-integrated, low-cost single-chip networking solutions
designed to be embedded within a range of consumer electronics and broadband delivery
products. Gigle Networks' products are certified HomePlug(R) AV compliant by the
HomePlug Powerline Alliance, and also support the IEEE 1901 Inter System coexistence
Protocol (ISP), the first global standard for powerline communications in
applications including multimedia home networking, video and audio distribution and
smart grid/smart energy. Gigle Networks' products are the only powerline networking
solutions that operate from a single voltage supply and features a dual MII port
implementation, allowing for efficient interfacing to additional embedded network
processors, driving more sophisticated applications.
