ContourGlobal and Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company Inaugurate Innovative Combined Heat and
Power (CHP) Facility In Romania
NEW YORK, Oct. 7 /PRNewswire-AsiaNet/ --
FACILITY IS FIRST OF OVER FIFTEEN SIMILAR ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY POWER
PLANTS IN EUROPE AND AFRICA
ContourGlobal and Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company announced today the
inauguration of a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant located at Coca-Cola
Hellenic's bottling facility in Ploiesti, Romania. The innovative plant will
supply, in a highly efficient and environmentally friendly process, all the
electricity, steam and chilled water required for the production of Coca-Cola
Hellenic's beverages. A second similar plant is currently being developed in
Romania, at Timisoara, and will begin operations next year.
The Ploiesti CHP plant is a technologically advanced facility that uses
clean natural gas to generate electricity and captures the heat emanating
from the engine to provide additional energy that is used in the bottling
plant. By capturing heat that otherwise would be wasted, ContourGlobal's CHP
plant substantially increases the efficiency of the bottling process while at
the same time significantly lowering CO2 emissions. Additionally,
ContourGlobal's CHP plant captures more than 95% of its CO2 emissions for use
in industrial and commercial processes. The facility will greatly reduce
energy use in Coca-Cola Hellenic's operations as part of its broad ranging
environmental protection measures in the countries where it does business.
Coca-Cola Hellenic has long maintained a commitment to sustainable growth
and when the time came to take active steps to carry out this commitment,
ContourGlobal was selected to provide a single point solution for its energy
needs at production facilities in Europe and Africa. The facility in Ploiesti
is the first of over fifteen similar environmentally friendly energy
production plants being developed within Coca-Cola Hellenic's bottling
plants.
Joseph Brandt, President and Chief Executive Officer of ContourGlobal,
stated, "Producing consumer products sustainably is one of the key challenges
of our time. Through our partnership with Coca-Cola Hellenic, we have
recombined existing technologies to create an innovative energy facility at
Coca-Cola Hellenic's bottling plant in Romania. Our CHP plant is highly
energy efficient and substantially reduces CO2 emissions. We are proud that
Coca-Cola Hellenic chose ContourGlobal to develop and operate these
innovative facilities throughout Europe and Africa."
