National Measurement Institute Open Day Sunday 19 September 2010

How is everything in our world really measured? The Australian National Measurement Institute (NMI) is responsible for measuring virtually everything around us, providing measurement expertise, calibration services, chemical and biological analyses and pattern approval testing serving essential activities ranging from the quantity and quality of our exports overseas to the sale of petrol for our cars.

To ensure its ability to meet Australia's future needs, NMI also undertakes a range of innovative research projects, including participation in international collaborations aimed at improving the definition of the kilogram and the accuracy of time and frequency measurements. NMI also works in emerging areas such as food allergens, designer illicit drugs and newly identified pollutants and greenhouse gases, all of which require the development of new analytical methods and reference materials.

The National Measurement Institute will hold an Open Day for the general public on Sunday 19 September 2010. Details are as follows:

When: 10am 4pm Sunday 19 September 2010

Where: National Measurement Institute, Bradfield Road, West Lindfield, NSW

What: 16 labs will be open to the general public
