Expanding Opportunities - VAS Asia 2009: WaveNet, Platinum Sponsor of Asia's

Largest VAS Convention, CEO to Address Forum

COLOMBO, July 7 /PRNewswire-AsiaNet/ --

VAS Asia 2009, Asia's largest convention on the business of Mobile Value

Added Services, assembles key players in the information and communication

landscape on 10 July 2009 at Le Meridien, New Delhi. A guest speaker at this

year's event, WaveNet CEO Suren Pinto, will present a Sri Lankan perspective

on the expansion of VAS solutions, including Video VAS in the Asian market.

Value Added Solutions specialist WaveNet is a Platinum sponsor of VAS Asia

2009.

South Asia represents some of the fastest growing wireless markets in the

world. The key driver for this growth will come from India with subscriber

numbers expected to reach 532.8 million by 2010.

While a majority of the markets are still on 2.5G networks, countries

such as Sri Lanka, Malaysia and the Maldives have already gone 3G. With 3G

licenses being announced in India, the fastest -rowing market in South Asia

and in fact the world, the requirement for sustainable, viable 3G services

will increase with demand focusing on innovative solutions that can generate

revenues from non-voice services and transform operators from network

providers to service providers.

Illustrating the need for mobile VAS, WaveNet CEO Suren Pinto said,

"Mobile Value Added Solutions are an integral component of today's demanding

business environment, as they offer a multitude of business generating

opportunities for organisations. They contribute to improved productivity,

revamping business, customer and cooperation processes. VAS Asia 2009 is the

ideal opportunity to identify the evolving needs of what is a fast expanding

market for mobile solutions, enabling Wave Net to continue its deployment of

reliable and scalable solutions via the latest enabling technology."

Having successfully developed and deployed several 3G-based value-added

services and applications for both local and international network operators,

WaveNet takes into account the individual market conditions in South Asia,

where a majority of the users are prepaid and have limited budgets and low

cost handsets. There is also poor Internet penetration in multilingual

populations where English is not prevalent.

"Technology evolutions, such as 3G, represented a unique opportunity for

us to innovate and address these market conditions to deliver a customer

centric set of services that will drive 3G usage and increase revenue,''

added Suren.

The VAS Asia 2009 International Conference and Exhibition, now in its

fifth year, provides a forum for businesses to become cognisant with the

types of innovative service offerings are most appealing to Indian consumers.

Issues up for discussion include the worldwide trends in VAS and the

implications for India, the role of mobile operators in delivering mobile

content and 3G as a tool for boosting Mobile VAS usage in India.

The event attracts various stakeholders in the sphere of ICT including
