Local open source CMS is gaining popularity in

Australian Universities

10 November 2009

Squiz has announced that one in three Australian Universities are using the locally developed and supported

enterprise open source MySource Matrix Content Management System (CMS).

To stretch limited financial and technical resources as far as possible, enlightened organisations have been quick to

realise the benefits delivered by supported open source solutions over traditionally licensed proprietary software. This is

especially true of the university sector where the requirement for many individual faculty sites and multiple concurrent

back end users can dramatically escalate project costs through licensing; even before one cent has been spent on the

implementation. Mature supported open source solutions such as MySource Matrix allow universities to address these

core business requirements with greater efficacy and at a lower cost.

Universities can also have complex Standard Operating Environments (SOE) running a mixture of Windows, Linux, Mac

and UNIX platforms on the desktop. Because access to the MySource Matrix editing interface is entirely browser based it

is compatible with the widest possible range of SOE’s and therefore accessible to the greatest number of content editors.

Squiz has recently partnered with the University of Tasmania (by adding a new UTAS Staff website), Edith Cowan

University (with a whole of campus solution) and the University of Sydney (website for the Faculty of Economics and

Business) to provide successful web content management solutions.

These and other Australian universities are well known for their high standards of education and for conducting

innovative research and development. By them selecting and using local innovative leading edge solutions as part of

their core operations, Australian universities are supporting local investment and productivity which bodes well for

Australian technology development.

Managing Director John-Paul Syriatowicz commented “It is very rewarding to see that Squiz is playing such a significant

role in the delivery of supported web content management solutions for the Australian knowledge revolution”.
