Squiz releases MySource Mini CMS under GPL as free
VMware image
27 October 2009
Squiz today announced that the revolutionary new CMS, MySource Mini is now released under the GPL open
source license. Anyone may download an easy to install VMware image at no charge from http://mini.squiz.net.
Easy to evaluate, easy to maintain and easy to use, this 4th generation CMS from the Squiz product stable is a
significant step forward for Web Content Management.
And ease of use is where MySource Mini excels. Thanks to the revolutionary Viper editing interface every element of a
website can be edited in line and without a traditional 'backend' user interface. Viper offers true inline WYSIWYG click-
to-edit functionality to easily create and manage content without technical skills or specialised training. New sites can be
up and running fast courtesy of MySource Minis selection of pre-loaded designs. Detailed context-sensitive help is
always available when and where it is needed.
When asked why Squiz chose to make this important contribution to the open source community Squiz Managing
Director, John-Paul Syriatowicz said Squiz was founded on the premise that open source software solutions deliver the
best value to our clients. Open source software allows our clients to control when, where and how much they spend. This
choice means that every penny spent on a Squiz solution goes towards meeting organisational objectives rather than
license fees." In accordance with the GPL license Squiz will ensure the entire MySource Mini code repository will be
publicly readable.
In the words of Gartner VP Brian Prentice, unnoticed by many, the open source movement has changed irreversibly
during the past five years. Open source once stood as the industry's direct factory outlet mall - the place to acquire
software directly from the manufacturer at a significantly lower price, albeit with some inconvenience. Now open source
is firmly ensconced in the mechanics and machinations of the software industry.
The free VMware image can be upgraded via a subscription to use Squiz's up-to-date service. This service keeps the
entire platform updated without the need for human intervention. Squiz believes this service is unique and represents a
sea change for an industry traditionally associated with lengthy and expensive upgrade processes.
MySource Mini is the foundation for the next generation MySource content management suite. For downloads and more
