th
July, 2009 On the back of the recent acquisition of Funnelback from the CSIRO,
Squiz has announced an exclusive industry briefing in Sydney for senior IT professionals to
explore the benefits of open source software and experience real world case studies in open
source functionality.
Featured keynote speaker, Gartner Research Vice President Brian Prentice will be presenting a
session on why adopting open source software is not a matter of if its a matter of when. Brian
will describe why this trend is occurring and how organisations can benefit and be prepared.
Getting time with a Gartner Research VP is rare, and this event should be popular with industry
professionals grabbing this opportunity.
Squiz Managing Director John-Paul Syriatowicz will describe how the supported open source
software model provides new opportunities for reducing cost and risk in enterprise web content
management projects. He will also demonstrate MySource Matrix, the most popular open source
content management system within Australian government as a case study.
Funnelback Chief Scientist David Hawking will be presenting a session on why effective search is
a vital ingredient of successful content management and how to successfully help customers,
clients and employees succeed in information and service seeking activities. Funnelback employs
open source technology and attendees will experience a case study of their flagship product,
Funnelback Enterprise.
"Squiz has 10 years of experience deploying and supporting open source software. I'm pleased to
say that we've observed a significant upswing of mainstream acceptance of supported open
source solutions in the last 12 months, a trend also observed by Gartner ", says Syriatowicz.
Attendees will have an opportunity to interact with the three presenters in a roundtable
debate/Q&A as part of the agenda.
