Indias chief scientist in Melbourne
Indias leading scientist and international nanotechnology expert, Professor CNR
Rao, FRS (Fellow of the Royal Society), will give two free public lectures in
Melbourne.
Professor Rao, Chair of the Scientific Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of
India, will speak at RMIT University on the role of science in the future of India
and the latest developments in nanomaterials.
He is in Melbourne as a Visiting RMIT Fellow and is available for interview from
Thursday on nanotechnology, the future of science and research in India and
how Australia can take advantage of the booming opportunities for education
exchange and research collaboration in one of the worlds fastest growing
economies.
A world authority on solid state and materials chemistry and the author of more
than 1,400 research papers and 41 books, Professor Rao has received honorary
doctorates from 46 universities.
He is currently National Research Professor, Linus Pauling Research Professor
and Honorary President of the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific
Research in Bangalore, India.
At a free public lecture this Thursday, Professor Rao will discuss the past,
present and future of Indian science.
This will be followed by an examination of novel chemical approaches to
nanomaterial synthesis at a lecture for Melbournes scientific community this
Friday.
