Wireless success enables Endowment Fund for
Australian Science
A fund to support Australian science made possible by the success of CSIROs Wireless
Local Area Network (WLAN) technology will be launched tomorrow (Tuesday, October 20)
by the Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, Senator the Hon Kim Carr.
The Science and Industry Endowment Fund will support fundamental scientific research with
potential to benefit Australia, as well as research aimed at solving major challenges facing
us today and in future.
Nationally significant research facilities, and research scholarships and fellowships will also
be supported.
The Fund will also be a vehicle for others to contribute gifts and bequests to support
research that meets its aims and principles.
Senator Carr will announce initial grants from the Fund.
Dr John Stocker, CSIRO Chairman, and Dr Megan Clark, CSIRO Chief Executive and
Trustee of the Fund will also be present.
