GfK Asia Unveils Weekly Tracking of Mobile Phone Retail Sales in Korea

SINGAPORE, Oct. 20 /PRNewswire-Asia-AsiaNet/ --

New GfK Weekly Data Service provides Valuable Insights to Korean Mobile Phone Manufacturers and

Leading market research company, GfK Asia, has launched a new weekly tracking service for the South

Korean mobile phone market in response to the needs of this country's fast moving mobile phone industry.

This unique new service addresses the industry's requirements for a total market view while providing

meaningful insights into the dynamics that drive the weekly retail purchase trends and promotional impact

across all mobile phone categories.

The South Korean mobile phone market is forecasted to reach close to 21.9 million units in 2009.  In

September, the top 3 brands took up more than 90% of the market.

GfK Asia provides reliable mobile retail tracking data to the industry by using its fast and accurate auditing

system.  Korean data will be provided on a weekly basis by nationwide Telecom Specialists shops, General

Electronic Stores, and Hyper Market 'shop-in-shop' stores.  The extrapolated data includes operators such as

SK Telecom, KT, and LG Telecom.  GfK first launched mobile phone tracking in South Korea in 2004.

However, this original service provided only metro market (Seoul, Inchon and Kyunggi) mobile retail tracking

data on a monthly basis.  This service now encompasses all types of mobile phones, including Smart Phones,

in all regions of the Korean Peninsula on a weekly basis from October 2009.

Korean mobile phone manufacturers and retailers can benefit from the use of this information by using it to

monitor the ever-changing retail landscape while identifying swift sales trends for their product sales,

marketing, and merchandising strategies.
