BENGALURU, Sept. 25 /PRNewswire-AsiaNet/ --
- Plans to Create and Launch Products in India for PC OEMs and Telecom Carriers
- Launches HyperSpace and FailSafe
Phoenix Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTEC), the leader in PC 3.0(TM) products, services and embedded technologies,
today launched its new initiatives and management in its Bangalore based facility. The Company
revealed plans to create products in India that will cater to the needs of PC OEMs and telecommunications carriers
(operators) across the world.
Phoenix Technologies established industry leadership and created the PC clone industry with its original core systems
software (BIOS) product in 1983. Phoenix has 139 technology patents and 65 pending applications, and has shipped in
over one billion systems. Phoenix is headquartered in Milpitas,
California with offices worldwide. Its flagship products and services, including HyperSpace(TM) and FailSafe(TM) are
revolutionizing the mobile end-user experience by delivering unprecedented performance, security, reliability, continuity,
and ease-of-use for mobile PCs. The PC industry's top system builders and specifiers use Phoenix products to differentiate
their systems, reduce time-to-market and increase their revenues.
At a press conference and industry event in Bangalore, Phoenix's President & CEO, Woody (Woodson) Hobbs,
announced that Phoenix will expand its presence in India to drive innovation and expand into major emerging markets in
the Asia-Pacific region, to pursue global revenue growth opportunities. The Phoenix India Business Center will double its
workforce in the next 6 months and expects to invest approximately Rs 100 crores over the next few years. The Centre will
support both local and global R&D projects.
Mr. Hobbs said the division will focus on product development for mobile PCs, to solve the unmet needs of PC
consumers globally. He introduced HyperSpace and FailSafe to PC OEMs and telecom operators in India. Phoenix
HyperSpace is a revolutionary operating environment for mobile computers (laptops, netbooks, nettops, MIDs) that
provides end users with the benefit of instant Web access and extended battery life. HyperSpace can be the primary OS
on a machine, or can run alongside Windows(R) as the instant-on/off companion environment. Compatibility with Windows
allows users to instantly switch between Windows and HyperSpace as dictated by their computing needs. Phoenix
FailSafe is the leading laptop anti-theft and data
protection solution that helps protect, track, and manage a lost or stolen computer along with the data that is stored on it.
FailSafe allows you to remotely retrieve and erase digital files and even disable the computer to
prevent unauthorized access. The Company showcased these cutting edge technologies to the press, business leaders
and technology evangelists at the opening event in Bangalore.
Mr. Hobbs also introduced Kirthiga Reddy, the new Vice President and GM of Phoenix India, who will lead R&D, product
management and new market development in India. "We welcome Kirthiga to the Phoenix family. Her experience and
energy will help Phoenix India grow and become a solid and integral part of the PC ecosystem globally." Kirthiga brings
over thirteen years of international experience spanning general management, product management, product marketing
and product development. Prior to Phoenix,
Kirthiga Reddy was the GM of Motorola Good Technology Group India where she was responsible for leading the cross-
functional Good India team, accelerating new product revenue, and coordinating business and engineering deliverables
with global counterparts.
Mr. Hobbs said, "Leveraging the talent and opportunities in India enables Phoenix to provide the high quality and
innovative products that our customers require worldwide as well as in India."
"We are enormously proud to be the first company to bring to market the vision of an instant-on, always-available and
all-day computing environment that can co-exist with Windows. We want mobile PCs to be as efficient, easy-to-use, fun,
personal, and secure, just like smartphones. This is our vision for PC 3.0(TM). The entrepreneurial spirit combined with a
highly skilled workforce in India will help us further this vision globally,"
emphasized Mr. Hobbs.
